The wall is made up of concrete that has been battered, or reduced in thickness, so that it can better resist the impact of a projectile. The wall is also often reinforced with metal bars or mesh to further increase its strength.

A concrete retaining wall stem is usually battered to reduce the concrete dead load on the footing. The vertical dowel bars and reinforcing bars are placed according to the retaining wall configuration (sloped, stepped, and/or uniform top wall thickness).

Another method that requires less strain and effort is to glue the plywood to the concrete. These are only a few items and will firmly hold the plywood.

Step 1

Can You Put Wallpaper On Concrete Walls?

Yes, you can place the wallpaper on concrete walls, but several obstacles must be overcome first. Concrete walls are rough, porous, and uneven, making wallpaper installation more challenging.

Moisture can infiltrate through the concrete and onto the back of your wallpaper because it is such a porous substance. This ultimately softens the adhesive, causing the paper to slip off.

So, in addition to hanging the wallpaper, you must seal the wall to prevent water infiltration. Concrete is abrasive and gritty, which can cause the wallpaper to break or give it a harsh, uneven appearance.

However, good surface preparation can decrease or even eliminate these issues. The key to hanging paper on concrete or cement walls is to keep the surface flat and dry.

Even if you remove all the projecting cement particles off the wall, it will remain gritty and porous. However, you may still hang wallpaper to add some flair to your space.

On a rough surface, you can’t just use any paper. Rips will be more likely during and after installation. Select a paper that is thick enough to withstand a lot of wear and tear.

Wallpaper also comes in color, pattern, and texture combinations that are practically hard to replicate with paint. This is especially useful when coating concrete walls, which are rarely flat and smooth.

When you paint an uneven wall a solid color, every mistake is visible because it casts a shadow. Still, patterned wallpaper hides those imperfections by burying the shadows inside the pattern.

Should I Use Prepasted Or Unpasted Wallpaper For Concrete Walls?

The reverse of prepasted paper has paste already applied to it. Soak the paper in water to activate the paste.

This is an excellent solution for flat, smooth surfaces such as drywall but not for gritty concrete or cement. You wouldn’t use pre-pasted wallpaper unless you first hang a thick liner.
