Traditional window shutters are much more durable than other types such as roller shutters. They are also much more secure than other types of window coverings because they can’t be closed and opened at the touch of a button.

They offer better protection for your home and business. Many burglars choose to target homes that don’t have shutters. Louvered shutters aren’t just for keeping out intruders, however.

They also protect you from stray dust and pollen from outside, keeping them from getting inside your home or business while still allowing light in and giving you a view of what is going on outside without having to let in any unwanted pests or dust.

Keeping your windows covered not only helps keep things outside out, but it also helps keep things inside your home or business where they belong.

Many types of window coverings, including DIY plantation shutters that you can easily make yourself, offer privacy and keep the sunlight out. Blinds and other types of window coverings can be closed during the day to darken a room in which you are trying to sleep.

Another advantage is that it protects your furnishings by blocking out UV rays. The sun’s UV rays can fade fabrics and cause damage to upholstery and other furnishings.

Ready-made shutters come in a variety of styles, colors, sizes, and prices. You will have many options when you are shopping around for security window shutters, so choose ones that match the design of your home or business as well as your budget.

How Do You Make Sliding Window Shutters?

To make your own sliding window shutters, you’ll need a few supplies: a piece of wood of the right size, some wood screws, a drill, a saw, and some heavy-duty fabric or vinyl (or a combination of the two). Once you have all of the supplies, follow these simple steps:

  1. Measure the width and length of your window, and cut the wood accordingly: Make sure that your measurements are exact so that the shutters will fit snugly in the window frame.
  2. Screw the wood together along the lengths, making sure to use the correct screws for the material: Attach the window shutters to the window frame by screwing them in at the corners.
  3. Drill a hole in the middle of the wood panel, big enough for the fabric or vinyl to fit through: This hole should be slightly smaller than the thickness of your fabric or vinyl so that it will fit snugly.
  4. Thread the fabric or vinyl through the hole, and pull it tight: Use the fabric or vinyl to cover your window, pressing it tight and taut against the wood. Attach them using screws to hold them in place.
  5. Drill another hole in the middle of the fabric or vinyl, about a quarter of the way up this is where you will screw the wooden strip that goes around the window frame.
  6. Put a screw in the hole you drilled in step 3, and screw it into the wood panel: You will repeat this step on the other side of the fabric or vinyl as well.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the window is fully shuttered.
  8. Make sure the fabric or vinyl is smooth and wrinkle-free, and give the window a final coat of paint or sealant to protect it.
