How Do You Frame A Greenhouse Window?

  1. Make sure that the windows are clean, as any dirt or residue will prevent the adhesives from sticking properly.
  2. Use an orbital sander to sand your windows with a fine-grit sandpaper. This will remove any dirt, grime, or residue that may have accidentally gotten on your windows while you were building your greenhouse.
  3. Measure your window for width and height, then cut your exterior framing to size. Be sure that you measure the height of the top and bottom panels as well so that you can create a frame that has the same dimensions on both sides.
  4. Stack two pieces of aluminum or plywood on top of each other, then use a stud finder to determine where they are located in your greenhouse’s exterior wall. Mark one spot where you will put one side of your framing using a pencil or marker, then repeat this process on the other side of the surface.
  5. Cut your window frame pieces to size and attach them to the studs by using screws, aluminum angle brackets, or trim boards that are cut to fit in between them so that they will extend slightly past the walls themselves.
  6. Attach your second layer of framing on top of the first layer, then secure it all with additional screws or bolts. Do not use anchors, as they may become loose over time, and allow the window frame to slide down from an excessively high angle on one side. Y
  7. Sand your frame with fine-grit sandpaper and paint the frame with a high-quality primer and sealant combination. If you’re painting your frame, it’s important that you use high-grade paints so that they can withstand the elements of being outdoors for many years to come.
  8. Apply adhesives to the window frame and attach it to your greenhouse walls, then secure it all with screws or nails.
